saying that it didnt exist till 1950 is a bit silly. It has always been around, maybe it just wasnt known about until 1950

oh and i have a question if someone could answer it for me please... i have been bulimic for nearly 3 years now, binge purging everyday. when i was purging i took my fingers out and vomitted without using my fingers , i'm wondering how much damage i have done and what caused it to happen..

i wonder if this woman is bulimic or has had any contact with a person who suffers with an eating disorder, because to me it sounds like she's researched on the net, took courses and took other peoples word for it. if you take time with people who do have an ED, you can understand it better and get the real facts, not 'they eat too much and get a fear of gaining weight' because every bulimic person knows that is a COMPLETE understatement.

see i have been accused of being anorexic because i go through periods of not eating or eatin under 200 cals..but i get times where say i eat slightly over 200 say even just 50 cals more and il vomit, which i am now told that its bulimia not anorexia.funny enough ive had this for years and i am of a so called normal weight.whats gone wrong

yep the Romans used to do it so I don't know where the 1950s appeared from

This massively oversimplifies a complex and debilitating disorder. Very few if any have the determination to 'recover' by themselves. Knowing more about the condition DOES NOT make it any easier/harder to 'recover' either, so I don't see how books/reading would be of any help, except in finding tips, which will only exacerbate the eating disorder. Often it is only fear that drives bulimic to seek help. This video is about as pathetic and wishy-washy as the NHS treatment of eating disorders.

I think it would be rather unprofessional of her to rant on about all the serious damages and using the word 'death' and 'stomach rupture' could create alot of fear, worry and anxiety in sufferers. These are emotions that actually TRIGGER the habbit. Its much better for a sufferer to be told by a proffessional that there are known succeful recovery methods and programs. Sufferers need to be encouraged and feel hope and positivity.

The "basics" of any ED are it's a psychological illness which can prove fatal. It took me one sentence to say that, not three minutes. Health professionals should be aware of how their opinions can influence common understanding of something like bulimia. I don't understand why she spoke on tooth decay as a major side effect as opposed to gastrointestinal damage, rupture of the stomach lining and esophagus, abnormal electrolyte balance which are of far greater relevance and concern.

The Romans also did that during feasts that would last for days, they even had a spot for it called a Vomitorium. Throwing up does not make you a bulimic any more than getting super drunk on your birthday makes you an alcoholic. HUGE difference. Bulimia is just an addiction like any other addiction, just a different format.
