Ya no, I'd always wondered about that because I'm from San Diego and everyone does call it BBQing when you cook on a grill. But I was always confused because I thought BBQ was a type of meat/ sauce like they sang about. Now I know my confusion was justified

one it depends on you prospective two just because its called teh united states does not mean it is the only one with states and the bahamas go further south

I dunno where in Louisiana you grew up, but there's lots of local Italian food here. Many Italian-Cajun ones too!
